Cope Winter Harbor build
Hello everyone.
I am going to be starting a build this week of the Cope 23 Winter Harbour. After a lot of research I decided this is the boat for me. I am a Pacific North West boater and the cut alloy is waiting for pick up at Alaskan Copper. My first forum question to pose is whether to power this beautiful boat with a Honda 200 or 225. Is the VTEC needed? Price, efficiency, power, ect. I plan on posting pics as the build starts and progresses. Any and all input is appreciated. There will be much more to follow.....

At least the 225 and I would look at the new Honda 250.
No one has EVER complained of too much power.

Well put Welder. The reason I ask is I have heard some discussion about the non VTEC 200 being more efficient than the VTEC 225 or 250. I haven't seen the GPH numbers to compare. Something to do with the activation of the VTEC at a certain RPM and fuel consumption drastically increasing at that point. More likely the problem is with my throttle tactics. I tend to be lead handed when heading out to the fishing grounds.

Took your advise and I'm going with the Honda 250. 3 days in and it's going well. Hung the sides yesterday and I'm going to try to get some pics up. I'm really trying to be done by opening day for Kings up here.

Re: Cope Winter Harbor build
should of kept that Pacific and cut off the console for a fort.
I'm assuming the "new build" will have a "fort" on her?
My V-tec only works when it's cool outside anyhow. So I live without it most of the time.

Yeah. Do miss the Pacific. She was a great boat. This does have a cab on her. Hoping to post some Pics soon just trying to figure out how to post from my I Phone. I'm 9 days in and over half way to getting her in the water.

9 days? Working on it full time I take it? Very cool looking boat. Are you using the TIG gun or regular spool gun?

I'm running a MIG gun. Miller's push pull system. I will be firing up the TIG for some choice interior beads soon. I have been amazed with the Accuracy that this pre cut boat is designed with. won't be long till she is on the trailer.

How are you getting the rigging from the motor to the console?

I was going to weld s 3 inch pipe under the deck. But I decided to run it along the starbird gunnel. There is a lot of room under them and I figure the straighter the path to the motor the better. Lots of welding gone today snap probably another 10 hours tomorrow.

Almost to the rigging stage. Anyone have any suggestions on steering. I am looking at u-flex. Also who is the best vendor to purchase from.

ANYTHING BUT TELEFLEX....PERSONALLY I'D GO SERIOUS COMMERCIAL AND GO KOBELT. THEY MAKE "SHIP" CONTROLS!
