Post by wdkerek »

I am having issues with the transducer breaking off.
have any of you welded a bracket that would allow a through hull transducer to work OUTSIDE of the boat?

can you post up or send a pic??

I think he is looking for a Horizontal plate as a thru hull is boat shaped . The plate needed will look more like a Trim Tab that is fixed in place I believe .

peterbo3 has a picture of one for a round transducer. Go to page 4 of "Your Alloy Boat" forum. The thread is titled "Building a Plate Alloy Boat" and the pic is on page 2.

Hi wd,
I thought you were a member here when I saw your post over on THT. I read bottom up to 22-25 knots depending on sea conditions & get a trace with depth up to 30 knots with a Furuno 585.

Pls explain the issues of the transducer being broken off. Do you know why it happens? All the years of having transom mounted TD's I have never even cracked one. Maybe there are some suggestions from everyone, if we knew what your current set-up is like and your thoughts of why. Hope we can help! Capt PJ

South Louisiana presents some unique challenges to keep a transducer from breaking.
tons of lillies and salvania in fresh water, and running the marsh can go from 10 feet to 10 inches in seconds.

And I am a guy that fishes alloy cause I am not too scared to run her across a mud flat or two to get to fish.
Heck, I repaint the skeg almost every trip !!!!!
hope that helps.
