32 Cold Water Bay Boat

#1

Post by CWB »

This is our commercial boat division All Points Marine. Bristol Bay Boat heading off to be finished. 32'x15 wide. Engine beds are 9' long and going to house a 1000HP MAN. Flybridge will be installed after delivery. I will plan on taking photos once it hits the water in a few months......

A little insider information. Our doors are not big enough to fit out therefore the wonderful individuals at Pacific allowed us to cut a door in the wall to pass her through

How much can she carry? Interesting selection of power but she looks like she can easily handle it. Looks so much bigger than the keel footage suggests.

That's a bit different than what "we" down here call an alloy bay boat

I thought you were gonna post a pic with something like this:

Hey Dave:

He means a "Bristol Bay" boat. So it is a boat intended for the bristol bay salmon gillnet fishery. As I recall, the boats are limited by regulations to 32 feet in length. But it is good to be able to carry lots of fish and go fast when the fish are running, so they build them with mega beams and mega engines. Sometimes the openings are limited to 24 hours at a spell. It is a crazy fishery!

Thats right Mike. A to B as fast as you can with as much on your back as possible. More recently, the focus has been on quality of fish. So you will see insulated fish holds with refrigeration system and deck hands bleeding the salmon before dipping them.

Dawg: She can can hold around 18k lbs under the deck.

Goat: That is the engine room. The beam of the vessel is just over 15', engine bed is approx. 6' with the fish holds on each side around 4' wide and run for and aft. (better pictures to come once she goes dipping). On the jig now is a 35' Walk with twin 300 Yamahas.

Goat: Nothing on the books as of yet. Well see what happens in the next few months. Some interesting conversations lately (wish I had a nickle for everytime I said that!)

Some of the questions did get me to thinking or a better word might be pondering the time that has passed. Need less to say I drummed up a few old photos.

1) It is amazing how some industries stand the test of time while others are are struggle to keep up. This photo was taken in the mid 90s.

2) I did not fish on this one but dawg asked how much it will carry. Photo from the early 80s and under the lids the boats will carry 14-20k+ but in the past it was not uncommon to plug the scuppers and deck load. Although enough time has passed I dont remember exactly but I am pretty sure I took part in many 28k+ deliveries.

3) This is just before the corks give out and the net sinks to the bottum! Mid 80s photo, I was on this boat and all I can remember is in the middle of the haul we received a distress call from a NON ALLOY boat near us that was sinking.....
