I intend to be out at LaPush Wa on the 3rd Around 11 pm to fish the morning of the 4th for Lings and Halibut. Seabass will be included if all goes well with the Weather. The Fishing as been good out there for the past two W/Es. Mike aka Gundog is looking to show. Since Welder has Never made a Battle Flag for AAB I will be sporting the BD one.

Fished last week on a 26' Northriver. We got our limit of 3 butts and 6 ling Cod before calling it a day and heading home. The drive is 5 hours and a Ferry ride to complete. :deadhorse:
One of the many times I was hooked up to a fish that took the elevator up from 560' down to be released.

Mike aka Gundog is thinking of showing if he finds a crew.
I will have a couple of Navy AD guys and a Plastic Boat Owner on board with me. Pictures should come. I will admit I Suc at taking pictures. I have broken two cameras in the past year. The Gods allow me to catch but punish me in the wallet for doing so. :banghead:

I'm sure I could come up with some examples of a logo, and I'd even leave fish, fishing rods, reels and the outline of the state of Florida and Louisiana out of the design. But, it would have to be in pencil. Not on a 'puter, because I'm not a graphic artist.

Although I have played one on TV. :rotfl:

W, ya know you can get a logo designed for $50 on the world wide web, thru a service.

http://www.google.com/search?q=logo+des ... ox&ie=&oe=

My dad had a few designs made for one of his inventions. They'll give ya three and you pick. Then it's yours and you get a copy I believe for future uses like shirts, flags, burgees and coffee mugs, on a disc.

Here's a quicky from Vista-print:

Sitting, plus a harness?

What's that? Does dinner come with this cruise, and cold Margaretta's?

Dave My Hips and Knees are Shot to Sh! T. Come Oct. I am out for 4 to 5 months getting a double Hip Replacement. I was on a 26' Northriver Offshore. The Seat was there and I used it. Later on the Owner of the boat told me that the seat slides back. My knees were a little cramped.

On my boat i stand in the aft corner either side and I can lean against the corners and reel them in. We are fishing in 500' to 550' for Halibut and using 1' 3/4" copper pipe and lead = about 3lbs. The Butts weigh between 20 to 35 lbs on Average. Starting about the third or fourth time bringing a fish up from the deep a old man like myself gets tired. :rotfl:

Rolling out of work Friday Night at 10 pm if not earlier to head out to fish Saturday Morning. A five hour drive There and Back. :hammer:

I believe I'd be the proud new owner of a:

Image

or a

Image
with powerpack.

That actually sounds like too much work. I like reeling in fish after fish, and if I had my druthers I'd never fish over 12 feet of water or use anything but a 8 ounce Shimano Curado low profile baitcaster, and a 12 ounce "fairy wand" for a rod.

I see it all....can ya believe I get lazy-azz kids on thier first or second fishing trip of their little lives sitting all day long, and won't stand up and fight a fish from 40 feet of water?? They grow up to be boring lil desk monkeys, I'm sure.

I'm excited.....You and big "W", will be doing ""photos essays"" for us all that don't get out of the states we live in, much.... if at all.

Yippee

John I'm jealous. That looks like awsome fishing. Worth every calorie to get one of those halibuts to the surface.

The harness is a good idea (I own one myself). I remember when someone on my boat hurt themselves doing the man up thing, whined the rest of the trip. A smart fisherman will use the right gear for the job!

Jetty, if you have a hankering to get up here stop by, I'll take you out and let you fight one of the barn doors. Maybe, just maybe, you'll get hooked yourself!

The trip started off with me at work. (no room to park it at work) I had a buddy pick up my truck and boat at my house since I had a plane to catch then launch before I could leave work Friday evening. They got to my work place at 9pm. I got the fishing flue two hours from the end of shift so we hit the road probably around 9:10, snagged another buddy on the way to the Edmond's ferry and managed to make the 9:50 crossing.

Pulled into LP around 1:30am and put the boat in the water. I slept on the boat and left the three guys in my truck to fend for themselves. It seems that the last guy in the truck was the first guy to start snoring. I got up at 4:30 and went to the truck to find Chris Penning in the bed of the truck sleeping in a Sleeping bag covered in dew. the guy that snored is in the back seat still snoring and the third guy in the front seat wide a wake. I got them up they rubbed their eyes and were on the water by 5 heading for the Prairie.

We got on the scene by 7 and we aren’t even settled yet before we’re surrounding by dolphins. I got busy pulling the first ling up. Boom, Chris get hit and start cranking. Get both on the boat and back down we go for damn near a repeat. We all manage to catch a fish and limit out by 8am We released 4 or 5 smaller lings to get our limit of 8. So off to the closure we go.

Hit the closure, found a place to snuggle in among all the boats and out go the lines to the bottom 530' down. Wasn’t nearly as quick as the lings so I pull my line up and tip the B2 with a black label herring. I do not even hit the bottom before I realize Jim has managed to get his line wrapped around the kicker. I passes my rod off to Jim and tell him to get it the bottom. Chris pulled his line up to put a the black label on as I cleared the line from the kicker. Jim hollars he’s hooked up; he’s got a pretty nice one on but his line is angled way out the back. Turns out the folks about 25 yards from us aren’t paying too much attention to their lines and we’ve managed to tangle up with them. How we kept the fish on as we untangled the two is a surprise to me, but somehow we do.

Next thing I know, Chris helping out holding another rod as they get the mess untangled, when he realized he is hooked up as well. Jay not wanting to miss anything throws on a herring as well proclaims he’s hooked up as well. Jim finally gets his on the surface and it’s a nice butt. it taped out to 48". Jay and Chris get theirs on the boat and they are in the 30 to 35 lb range. The last three times out my rod was the hot one. I did get two bites but did not bring one to the boat. I let Jay catch mine. Get all four bleed and in the box and start heading back in.

On the way back, I realize I was having battery problems; they were not charging properly so I decided to pass on the sea bass even though we hear chatter on the radio that they’re boiling all over at Seal Island. Three times My electronics turned themselves off when I had started my kicker motor. On the way out Saturday my FF showed I had 13.5 volts. Which was better then the last time out. I had replaced the brass wing nuts to SS nuts on Friday morning because they kept getting loose. While at Idle the charge was 12.5. as soon as I started the run in I noticed that the Voltage on the FF was bouncing back and forth between 11.8 to 12.1 volts. go to Idle and the FF would show 12.5 V. The new Lowrance Interface Cable was reporting to the FF that the Main motor was charging at 13.7 volts.

We got back in at the dock by 11:30 and all cleaned up and on the road home by 2 pm. I Suck at fish cleaning. I take way to much time doing so. Last three years I along with the rest of my buddies would pay Ralph in Neah Bay to clean our fish. $20 bucks and 20 minutes later we would get our fish back in three bags. 4 Butts, 8 Lings, and 40 Sea Bass ready to be cut up and vacuum packed. Everyone gets an equal share of the fish. This trip it was about 35 lbs ready for the freezer. Cost of the trip was $600. That equals out to $150 a person or $4.25 a lb. Halibut at the grocery store is $20 a pound and ling cod is around $10. We did good and had a lot of fun and now I get to fix the Electrical gremlin.

And Yes Dave we do fish here I just wish I could have posted the Picture of 40 Black Sea Bass on the dock for you to drool over. Though I would not have liked cleaning them.

So, I wouldn't know a Seabass if it bit my big sea azz.

Well, again 500 feet of reeling? I'd need me a electra-Mate or I'll hook and someone else can reel 'em.

Me tryin to match John at fishing is like me in the gerbil wheel, just aint gonna get anywhere with that one. I like the encouragement though, and can't wait to get my boat back in the water and try to catch him again :).

Jetty, last time I went halibut fishing the person who took me (Ivan), well he had one of those electric reels. Let me tell you, it was quite the back saver. Time too. We raced to get our weight back and he beat me every time! Well worth the pocket change to get one.

This last trip I tried Jay's Electric Penn add on Motor and Lost a fish because it was slooooow and I lost the fish. I will compete with an electric someday just not yet. Harness and a belt to get it done is good enough for me. A seat will help but not needed.

Naw, they look much different than "ours" on the right coast.
Round here "ours" are smaller and now not worth pursuing. They just decided to shut them down and make it 5 per person, from the 15 at 12".

SOOOOO, yeah "Yours" are now way better!

Florida is now #2 tree hugger state behind the originals, of California.

Nice trips goatram!!! I'm very jealous. This is the latest I have been getting out ever! Can't complain cause it's to due with work. I'd rather be too busy in this economy than not busy.

Wow 500 plus for butts. The deepest I have had to fish them is about 380. Most of ours we catch on the troll at about 200 ft. on the South Bank right out front of Ukee.

Thanks for posting up the great stories and pics. Keep em coming

Oh yeah don't feel bad even us younger guys like to sit down once in a while while hauling up the flatties..............

The Butts are shallow too in the Strait and on some of the other near shore areas off of our coast. But out deep they are almost guaranteed to be there and to catch them and big Lings

My Trip yesterday off the south end of Whidbey Island was a bust for shrimp Caught only 10 ea. for the three hours I was out for. We did catch 15 Sand Dabs or Flounder. This was the first time in this area and I did not find them. Did find a bunch of Jelly Fish.

Gundog They are opening up for deep water Lings Halibut and also kings next Thursday the 30th. Areas 3 and 4. 10,000 lbs to reach the quota so it will be a Thursday instead of a Saturday. But I have right now airplanes that be flying in and out here at work starting Wednesday throu next Sunday on my shift so I will stay and work. I was planning to fish Switsure Bank with my oldest Son and his significant other and her oldest Daughter. on Sunday the 3rd out of Neah Bay.

I've had many of those types of days prawning :banghead: .

As for the deeper hali fishing we might have to give it a whirl. I know of a few spots out on the Big Bank that are quite deep. Just never tried it. I am also sick of picking up juvenile Ling's while trolling the shallower banks near the basement. Although it is a good sign and good to see it is a big waste of fishing time. We usually pack up and move when it starts happening. Seems to be only for part of the season.

I'm so late getting out this year I will have to look at the log book to figure out where to start :skillet: :!:
