Hi everyone, new to the site and new to owning an aluminum boat. I was wondering if anyone has tried using rockwool insulation? It doesn’t get waterlogged and seems like it might breath enough to keep moisture from building up on the plate surface, any input would be appreciated.
 

As a geo type I don' think that rock wool is a good companion to have next to aluminum, especially with salts and water around. Many of the minerals in rock react with water or the carbon dioxide in the air and produce acids, caustic solutions. Rock wool, although relatively free draining will still have some moisture clinging to the surface of it's fine fibres via capillary suction. This all sounds like a recipe for poultice corrosion. Have you ever seen the corrosion that results from contact of aluminum with soil? That might be an indication of what rock wool could do.
