list of self-bailing manufacturers?

#1

Post by JB365 »

No need to start the advantages/disadvantages of self-bailing hulls debate again, that has been covered enough times.  Everybody's got their opinion.
I'm just wondering if there is a list somewhere of manufacturers that build self-bailing hulls?  I haven't been able to find one.

Thanks for any info.

Depends a great deal on size of boat. Most of the bigger manufacturers are self bailing down to about 24 ft length then it starts to get hard to keep the deck above the waterline.

Thanks guys for the info. Chaps, makes sense, guess I didn't realize this. Alumioforte, good to know, I will revisist Silverback. Got an opinion on their quality?

I've found that shopping for Aluminum boats is a lot like shopping for bbq grills at Home Depot...they have a LOT of grills the truly do look awesome, full of features, etc. The key is the quality of the build, and how long is that beautiful, cheaply priced grill really going to last?

Pacific are all self bailing, also a big plus IMO the sole is aluminum.

From my experience, dont be surprised if this forces you to a boat over 6m/20ft in length. The builders that play in this realm do intentionally. Over this realm the self bailing sole really makes sense, and they can eliminate the foam requirement. By including bilge pumps and bilge water indicators to a self bailing cockpit, the safety can be greatly increased. Adding a watertight bulkhead for the forward area(most likely to have damage) with same bilge water indicators adds safety.

Thanks Criagb,
Very good insight, got any details on what your experience is? It feels like I could learn from your wisdom, that's all.
I can go 20+ for the right boat, but don't really need anything too big.
