Ally boat repairs - am I worrying about nothing?

#1

Post by Elecmuso »

I recently purchased a 15.5 foot tinny here in Australia. Later found that some corrosion holes have been repaired using an epoxy of some sort (eg. JB weld or something like it), then painted over. At first I thought I'd have the holes fixed by welding but the few I've spoken too reckon it is not worth it, that the Aluminium probablly has issues and could be opening a can of worms.
should I have these TIG welded? I know about the Durafix type rod brazing options but cannot find someone around here with that specialty plus I've heard mixed reviews about the stuff.
Am I worrying about nothing and be happy with the epoxy fixes? It doesn't leak. I'm in the process of putting a bilge pump in anyway.

To moderator - I have posted this elsewhere on the forum. Think the other is in the correct place so can you please delete this thread?

Sorry to have made this error.
