New guy here.
New guy here.
I’m currently waiting on delivery of my new boat, a Thunder Jet Exporer 185. Which is a toy compared to most boats here, but a nice step up from the 25 year old riveted boat I’m fishing currently. I’ve already lurked a bit and picked up some info, figured I’d register and hopefully add to the discourse. I’m on the east coast where this kind of boat is somewhat rare, but it should suit my needs swimmingly for a two man walleye trolling platform on a few of the Great Lakes and bigger inland bodies of water.

Welcome. I suspect from your handle that you and I share a home water, and do a lot of similar things with our boats.
I haven't run a TJet, but I can tell you that when USDA was doing the cormorant hazing program on Oneida in 2003-09 or so, they stove in the bow of a Lund Alaskan in less than two years, then bought a TJet to replace it and were very happy with it.

Yep, I have a place on the North shore. I’m excited/scared to see how she’s going to handle Oneida’s unique waves. As you know they are stacked on top of one another unlike many other places, making it quite sporty sometimes! Good to hear about a good report on the TJ though!

Just testing out the picture posting process. I’m sure I’ll have a bunch more when the boat gets delivered, and I’m rigging it out! Here’s a decent Walter that visited my old boat earlier in the year, when the worm harness bite was on.

A Merc 115 proxs ct. i’ve always had good luck with Mercs. A 150 is max, but after taking a ride in my neighbors new 19 foot Starcraft with a normal 115 I think/hope a 115 should do fine for what I want it for. Which is a five mile run at most 90% of the time.
It’s obviously a little different boat, but with the larger lower unit than he has, I should be able to run a little bigger prop to keep me on plane at a slow speed. I’m not really concerned about top speed as long as I can get about 30mph out of it. But I would like to keep her on plane as slow as possible, to keep the bow down in the chop.
It being about a hundred pounds lighter than the 150 should help bridge the gap as well. Hopefully even if I screwed up not powering it at absolute max, stepping up from a 25 year old 75 horse two stroke will blind me to this fact. Now to figure out what exact prop...

Re: New guy here.
Great choice for the motor, I have been researching that motor as I want to repower my 19' Pacific from a 90hp Honda which is carbureted to the ProXS115, with my Honda I can run 36mph, I think I would see low 40s with the 115. My boat is also rated for max 150hp but I was thinking the same about being on plane at lower speed the 115 will definitely be a better choice, might consider trim tabs as well. Good luck with everything, look forward to seeing some pictures and hearing how it performs.

Re: New guy here.
Had it out for it’s maiden voyage the other day. I really like this motor. Everything worked perfectly. 6100 RPMs at WOT, 43 mph, with 3/4 tank of fuel and full live well/bait well. I could probably get a little more with the right SS prop, but this things home is shallow and rocky. Jumps up on plane and can stay up on it until about 7-8 mph.
Trolling motor works great, same for the fishfinders, and the bilge was bone dry. It’s unusual for everything to go absolutely perfect, but it’s a joy when it does.

Pretty.
Could be the angle but that motor looks like it could go up a hole or 3.

It’s a Humminbird solix 15. Should be nice for trolling!
