Removing Decals

#1

Post by Challenge »

I'm trying to remove some old lettering & stripes on my boat... Before last season I tried a heat gun & didn't have great results. They are letters that I want to remove on top of a reflective stripe decal. After last years attempt I now need to replace the reflective stripe :banghead: How have you guys removed them? Any tricks of the trade?

Boat US seems to have good prices on the stripes (but really in large quantities) or do U guys know of any outlets for 6" red reflective stripes or adhesive tape, I need about 35 feet?

Thanks in advance

After posting the links and watching the vids, had a brain fart and thought that the graphix remover looks more like paint stripper. So went in the garage and applied it to the decal I've been trying to remove for a couple of weeks now and it took maybe an hour and it is off. Some more cleaning required but it's not too bad.
You might want to try it in a corner see how it works, the reflective tape on mine was a little more resistant to the stripper.

Good luck

No chemicals and really quick with a cordless drill

I used it on a vehicle that had lettering on the windows. Worked like a charm and made a mess that was far easier to clean up than a chemical stripper

Thanks for the responses, I ordered the wheel from amazon, it seems like a great solution! I'm a little concerned that my wife will be upset when she sees that I ordered a stripper wheel.... But I will post the results

Anyone have a source for 6" reflective decals????

Thanks!
