Pacific Windshield ?

Post by dingahling »

Have any Pacific owners out there had to replace their windshield yet ?

My 11 yr 1925v has been crazing in the corners since I got it 5 yrs ago and pieces of top have now cracked off.
$445 + shipping for a new one is what Julie quoted me - I'm just wondering if anyone's had the same issue and ponied up for a new one ?

I always like the 19, with the tall glass windshield.....just because.

Well, on my old boat (Glass) I had a custom windshield made, thicker and taller. ""Pacific parts" seem quite pricey. You may just take it off, find a local plastics shop and have a new one made. That's what I did, and yes it was many moon's ago, but it surely wasn't that pricey. Maybe $250.

Then, I had an HD aluminum welded railing put around the whole thing. So to guard it and give well needed hand holds.

I see that the 19 just has that small windshield out flying alone. Might be a good idea if it had a rail?`

I'll try to get a pic in the next few days posted -boat's under tarp for winter...

and Jettywolf, I think you're right about a wrap around hand rail for the windshield, as my friends tend to want to grab the top of the shield when we hit waves. I'll have to find someone local who can weld alloy pipe...

I'm just surprised no one else with an older Pacific has gone through this yet. Julie has suggested that I find a local Plastics place to make me one, which I may try, since I may be too cheap to shell out for the factory original. I've also done a bit of research on acrylic and YouTubed the topic of bending plastic, so I may give a go myself. If I do, I'll post the Frankenstein results... fodder for the forum !

Your local glass shop can help you in your quest for the better product. hey can remove and cut either Safety glass or plastic and reinstall it for at least half if not 75% of the new cost from pacific.

Get to know someone with a welder. Good things happen.

Here is Ken's boat finished. The last part about the boat Stop device was made in three hours after the boat was parked in My shop and we had repositioned his boat on the trailer. Sorry it is a link to Bloodydecks Look fo Ideas. Dave he has a Fort so don't go here. http://www.bdoutdoors.com/forums/washin ... oject.html

First question is where in NY. I'm on Long ?island. You could have a 1" pipe frame bent up. weld a tab in each corner. and bolt a piece of Lexan in there. You could also do something similar if you need a wing window.

Add a picture when possible, I'm sure more ideas will fly.

That's a good idea, WBob, I hadn't thought of that.
I'm in Amagansett, nearly @ the End.
I'm leaning toward trying to replicate what I have -I'm was checking into Acrylic sheets @ TAP Plastics, though the size I'd need is just oversize for UPS. So now to find a local Acrylic source...

The reason no one has "gone thru this before" is because there's not many 19's out there and if so, (like I would) I wouldn't have that console, I'd have the aluminum/glass windshield, just like on my 26 footer.

Ya wanna add some BIG BUCKS to your boat????? Go see Welder Bob and have him build you a real windshield, with glass and weld that baby to your console, like a big boy Pacific :rotfl: :rotfl:

But, since ya have one. And said ya want to try it yourself even. I can tell ya from the guy who made mine for my old boat out of thicker material, "it was really tricky...and he actually messed up a few times till he got it perfect."
And year later it still "crazed" where heat was applied. NATURE O' THE BEAST!

Well looking there........"I see a really nice windshield in your future, one that'll never crack or craze only to add value to your 19."

I love pretending to spend other peoples money. Any one need any new reels :?:

i have a 1925 on it's 3rd windshield
without a t top or any other metal support around/above the plexi, your passengers will grab it and it will break
the problem with ordering it from pacific is not the materials, it's the shipping cost

just take it off and bring it to any plastics supplier in your area and have them cut & bend you a new one
once you add a top or tube support you won't have the problem any longer

Right after this post started we got a call from a customer that we built a boat for last spring. Now its cold out on the water and they wanted a windshield on the little work boat we built them. They couldn't get the boat back to us because it was busy on a job. So we whipped this bolt on windshield.

I'm really partial to wearing my hat's loose, compared to running the river or ocean with my hat pulled down as tight as "dicks hatband" on friends boats with poor excuses for real windshields.

But back to the original poster, there is options. As you can see, if you're still out there, reading..... :?: :?:

And as much of a pain in the azze my dad is, he always says,

"it's all about how much money you have." which does nothin' but piss me the hell off, because I don't have to dimes kissing! (because I live in Squidsville Florida...)

Just think, if we were talkin ""rich alaskan"" we wouldn't be talking about a small windshield on a small boat, but rather chopping the boat in half, to add storage, or adding on an extra play room for the chillrenz. :nutkick: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :nutkick:

This is my solution to the same problem on my 2006 Pacific 1925. Still need to add the glass to the frame.
