Here we go again, Now that the offshore boat is done and willie boat is sold its time to start the new build. New guide sled is a 6 degree 22' open guide boat that will be powered by a 2012 Yamaha 200 SHO with a pump and a new 9,9 kicker. here's a few pic's of the first days progress.

Nice.

I went back to your build Friday Night on I fish and went throu it again. Did you mention What it Cost you to build the Hull? Is it worth to get the $30 Set of plans to look it over. I like the 27.5' size with twin 150's. Coldwater has yet to build the 29' sport boat yet. I will have to pay to have theirs designed down to 27'.

Only problem is the 275 measures out to 29 actual hull length , then 31-1/2 with offshore bracket just not sure twin 150's would be enough. but the study plans are ok for $30.

Looks real good. Terry

Just one question when you weld in the floor how will you control the sides from bowing out. You have tack welded every thing in place and know is the time to do the finish welds. My Son finish welded in a floor on a friends boat. The sides where tack welded every 6 inches but When I got home from work I saw the sides of the boat has some serious waves in the metal. This is something I need to understand the secret before I attempt to build me a big boat.

When I weld out the floors and sides I'll start in the middle and skip or back step weld 3" on 12" schedule, Bruce Pollard has a good book on building aluminum boats that I believe explains skip, back step, chain and stitch welding on aluminum boats. I hear its a must read. I got a full welding schedule with my big boat plans that explained it very well. and I also read a lot of post on here by Kevin Morin and another aluminum boat building site.

Goat, are we allowed to "taunt" you during your, "down-time"?

I have always wondered is there any difference when welding that diamond plate, versus plain mill finished smooth plate?

And that diamond plate on the front bows section of these style boats is strickly for estetics, correct?
Image
And is that welded over smooth plate, or is that sculptured cut diamond plate, "that particular bow section?" If ya get my question. Cuz, one minute ya don't see it and then ya do. I don't see any joints where that under bow diamond plate was welded in. Again, if ya get my question.

It's really too bad that Floridians are arrogant azz'z about boats. Because that boat with some modifications to the layout could fish up and down the river I fish, out at the inlet, and even offshore a bit. And would even make a fine guide charter boat.

Instead, people round here think a 24' Carolina Skiff barge shaped boat is the greatest boat ever.....probably because they're pumped out like cord wood by a thousand unskilled laborers, and every 25 miles there's a C.S. dealership selling the fancy blue striped ones...... :rotfl: :rotfl:

I could make plenty of cashola in a boat like that.

EDIT:

Jus found this.......aswers one of my questions. "yes, its all for "looks" I guess and is on top of the smooth plate underneath???"
Image
I guess some folks get a little nutty huh?

Jetty, welding diamond plate is a little different because every time you get to a diamond your weld wants to stand up, but with a little practice you figure out when to add rod and when not to and how much. Yes the diamond plate is welded on top of the smooth plate and while some is for looks, it also serves a purpose. We pull up to the shore on many of our rivers and usually that means parking with the plate on rocks, diamond dosnt show the scratches and dings as bad, also many fish on the anchor and it prevents scratches and dings there to. But mostly it looks good. The boat you posted was built by Jim, at RB boats, he's a good friend and let me borrow his hull design for this open sled. I hope I answered all your questions? Tight lines and fair sea's.

Great looking sled and I dig the special effects plate work by your friend, very cool.

Is that more of a drifting style for the River fishing there? HUGE room. :scuba:
I only do what the voices in the Tackle Box tell me to.

Yes ya did and thanks......I thought that's what all of it was about. Yes, RB boats. Saw it on their website. Cuz I went looking round after I posted my thoughts to you.

Okay, new thing learned :!: Don't start a "welding hobby", welding diamond plate cut flames to the bow of my Pacific 26. Start out simple......make a rod holder
