new tri hull

#1

Post by welderbob »

Just delivered a 19 foot Tri hull to a survey group .The design was done by Bill Lincoln @ Response Marine. The boat was spec-ed as a tri- hull to provide a stable while driving the markers for the dredge crew. The hull was based on the same little run-about as Alloy Toys little center console.
Because these guys are tough on equipment we designed the boat with a 1/4" bottom. The 135 hp Honda pushed the boat to 25mph.

Hi Bob,

I think that it is a larger version of my boat... I hope it worked out well for you and your customer. I am very impressed w/the hull. Lots of whaler owners can't believe the stability and ride of my little boat.

Let's see some more photos of this nice build!

Cheers

Having trouble finding the build pics. There in a computer somewhere. The problem is we built a bunch of boats this year and this one kept getting put off to the side.
Its a great little boat. The side windows and the rear door/wall comes off for the summer time. At Sound Marine if you can dream it ,we can build it.

A few of the build pictures, I guarantee that you can't develop 1/4" plate any more that it is at the keel /bow. I'll be off the grid for a few days . See you all next week.

Pros & Cons to a "Tri-hull" design?? My father & I were talking about it one time. Can't remember what he said about them. Looks like it would cut through the waves pretty good.

Sabs28,

My little boat, rides very well (even non boaters comment on the ride) & is VERY stable, However the prop will ventilate in very tight high speed turns but it is predictable. I have been in some pretty heavy seas for a small boat and never felt uncomfortable.
I also rode in a 23' version of the hull also designed by Bill Lincoln that was also impressive (twins no venting when I was on it).

My boat is still in the water in RI if you would like to take a ride. How big of a boat are you looking for?

Cheers

Hey Bob, do you fully weld all your frames to the bottom sheet? I noticed some are and some arn't. It is just that I have recently come under criticism from a former boat builder for fully welding both sides of the frames and was wondering what your take was.

Cheers

seams are fully welded inside and out. Frames are skip welded. watertight bulkheads are fully welded on one side and skip welded on the other.
