Yamaha F200 help...

#1

Post by netman »

Couple of dumb questions. How do I drain the oil out of my F200? The manual shows the oil being removed by vacuum/pump???? Also my shifting is kinda clunky. Any suggestions for smooth shifting? Thanks and sorry for being so dumb. I set my motors on my boat myself and my F90 was zero problems with the set up. Thanks

On my Yamaha F250 the Oil Drain Plug is under the lower Right side Cowl. The Shift into gear is done Fast not slow, Move the andle from Idle into Just slow in a fast continues move.
F250, F225, and the F200 are the same Family.

On shifting .....DO NOT SHIFT FROM FORWARD TO REVERSE UNTIL THE PROP HAS STOPPED while in neutral . The bigger motor has a bigger/heavier prop that acts like a big flywheel and of course like said above make your shift BRISKLY .

Because of the weight of SS props the shift will make a little louder "CLUNK" if you have to do a lot of shifting , Forward/reverse, I would use a Aluminum prop so you don't hammer the lower unit as bad.

I use a pump on my F250s and will never go back to pulling the plug to drain the oil. This is the one I use:

Thanks for the replys. I went out today and pulled the cowlings off and found the drain plug. Of course I pulled the left side first. Got the oil changed and then the lower unit. I looked at the markings on the shifter and made an adjustment there. The mark was on the backside of the two markings so I adjusted it right in the middle. After running the F90 for two years and then going to the F200 the first thing I noticed was the difference in the shifting. I found as suggested to be firm with the shifting. I shift my motor at least a hundred times a day running gill nets. When I drained the lower unit today there was a little color on the bottom plug but nothing to be concerned with. I never thought about going with a alum prop over a SS prop. Something to think about.
Thanks again for everyones replys and help.

I ran a new boat with an F200 on it Wednesday. It shifted like butter.

One of the New Electronic Shift fly by wire or one of the old Mechanical cable operated?

I don't know and it was never brought up. It was on a brand new yet to be delivered boat, so it could easily have been the fly-by-wire. That is what I would get on a new motor.
