50-50
50-50
Well, here is something I have been helping my friend, Steve, with when he had to have two sets of hands and to ask for my advice or get another POV. It is an older Pacific Mariner with a 165 Mercruiser that runs really well. The boat needed loads of help but engine and hull were sound. He disliked the original cabin and had always wanted a cabin he could stand up in and keep him warm while keeping Karen his wife safe and comfortable..it has become his retirement project. He was a welder for the county and has a marine cert as he used to fix the county ferry boats. So ALUMINUM was his choice of material...he laughs at me when he says "Do you think your ALLOY guys will let me in the club with my 50-50?"
I told him I would post pics and relate the story! So I am. The boat is 22'. He has built a very early traditional look to the cabin and has had the windows made to fit. Some photos will be out of order as I have to get them from him...but these are from today as I had dinner with him before I head off to FL and AL.
Note the interior backing plate that sandwiches the old NON ALLOY cabin side.
All fastners are ss bolts in plastic sleves and it is bedded with black 5200.
grab rails on aft cabin and on roof top.
He wanted good head room in the forward cuddy with a real sealable dogged hatch that you can actually use.
This deck box is to store the anchor and chain and rope...the lid will most likely have an power capstan and chain gypsy
The little angled wings at the back of the anchor box is to allow drainage onto the deck out the bottom of the box.
So that's the story so far! Capt PJ

Here are some images of the earlier construction and fitting the side glass.
I will not have any more images of this until I return in late April or early May. Capt PJ

Re: 50-50
Its all good, very nice work. You couldn't do a job like that in plastic and make it look that nice. When your ready just un-bolt the top and slide the new aluminum hull right underneath .

Steve will be pleased that you like what he is doing. We trade off work on each others boats. Thx for your comments! Capt PJ

That is cool. Now next upgrade will be to replace the bottom section with Aluminum.
