Crabbin and Prawnin Canuck Style

#1

Post by Sculpin »

Well we finally got the Sculpin out of the snow. My son Jake and myself have been out for the last few weekend but remembered the camera this last one. Here are a few shots for your pleasure  .

Here's the first mate starting on the traps

Image

Heres his stack completed. We run the legal 4 traps per licensed person for a total of 8 traps. We run 2 traps per string with 1 float as per the regs.

A pot full of prawns puts a smile on your face everytime.

The captains turn.

Image

A cooler full of dungees. We flush the sea water every 15-30 minutes on the crabs as they piss themselves. It keeps them fresh.

My new prawn puller (I still haven't got around to building a new electric unit) but that's ok as I really need the exercise right now  .

Image

Jakes final tally on the prawns. He counts every one and throw back the females with eggs (not a requirement but suggested) and is very conservation orientated (very proud of him).

Now that is some good eating right there. Love those dungies! Are you able to shrimp and crab all year?

Yeah it's been a longer than usual winter here on the Rock. Glad to be back on the water finally. We've been out a few times now just remembered the camera this time.

We can pretty much prawn and crab all year round but it's better during the winter months for sure. There is word that they may shut the crabbing down for half the year and I'm keeping an eye out for that.

More to come.
