Adding a Zinc Anode

#1

Post by warthog5 »

In reference to this project: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1977

I added a bracket to bolt a Zinc anode to this hull on the Port side.

Can I just bolt a Rudder Zinc to it?

Absolutely, any format zinc will work. I sometimes run across big boat zinc plates cheap that I cut up with a bandsaw to whatever size I need.

Agreed... it's not the particular format of zinc used, but rather the method of bonding and grounding used to protect whatever you're trying to protect.

Side note: Anyone have the Volvo DP drives with the annoying donut zinc that you have to remove both props to change? Has anyone come up with a workable "clam shell" or split zinc for those drives?

10-4 That piece of U-channel measures 4in wide and 3in tall. My plan was to drill a hole in it and mount a 3in Rudder zinc, half on the outside and half on the inside of the U channel.

You may end up being the only Florida jon-boat that actually has a zinc on it.
I never see any, and watch them pour thru the bait shop parking lot on weekends, and I look at almost every one just to see if they do.
