The NY that few people know about...
Just thought I would post a few pics of beautiful Western NY for anyone who hasn't been there before. (Several of the pics are from Joe Braun Photography http://www.citrusmilo.com/)
Someday, when I have a chance to slow down...
Keuka Lake looking West to Bluff Point...
A typical farm in Burdett, NY...
Letchworth State Park..."grand canyon of the East"...
Taughannock Falls - Trumansburg, NY...
looking at the South end of Seneca Lake...
Watkins Glen State Park...
My front deck...looking SouthWest...
The old hydro lab Cornell University...Fall Creek, Ithaca, NY...
My back yard...
Watkins Glen State park...
Winter morning looking East...friends deck...
East side of Keuka Lake looking north to Bluff Point...
Watkins Glen, NY looking North...
Eastern shore of Seneca Lake...Burdett, NY...
A very nice old house on Seneca Lake...(behind the house is a 100ft waterfall)
My front deck at sunset looking NorthWest on Seneca Lake...

"Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right."
Is the 4th picture Taughannock Falls? We used to take the rim trail to the top of the falls and look over the edge...
The 3rd picture looks familiar. Isn't that a gorge just south of Rochester?
6th looks like Watkins Glen. And the 8th is, of course, Fall Creek in Ithaca, specifically Triphammer Falls on the Cornell campus (my alma mater).

DAMN!!!! You are good! The gorge is Letchworth...just south of Rochester. Right again on the 4th picture. The fact that you spelled it is even more impressive.

During my 5 1/2 years at Cornell, I spent 6 months at Xerox in Rochester on a Co-op assignment. I think several of us went to Letchworth on a weekend. That was back in 1980 (sheesh, I'm getting old).S L Dave wrote:DAMN!!!! You are good! The gorge is Letchworth...just south of Rochester. Right again on the 4th picture. As for spelling Taughannock, that's what Google is for
Central NY is very, very pretty. I loved the place when I was there. But it is cold in the winter --seriously cold -- and hot and humid in the summer. And as a life member of the NRA, the gun laws in NY completely suck. Of course, I live in MA where the gun laws suck just as hard :evil:JETTYWOLF wrote:I can't see why anyone would not want to return and live there. Just awesome stuff.
So as much as I love the place, it is very unlikely that I will be retiring in central NY. Which is too bad, because it is a lovely, lovely place.

Having never been back east I have to that that is some beautiful country. Someday when I get tired of the scenery up here in AK I will have to make a trip in the fall for the colors (mid to late October?). Nice backyard by the way.

Pete how are you and the family doing? How is Patience running? Geeze I do not know if you can get tired of Alaska's scenery... especially when you throw in visiting Hawaii when winter cabin fever sets in.
The thing is I have not found a state that does not have some beautiful scenery to be found.
America the beautiful.
Have a great Labor Day.

There are quite a few wineries along the banks of the Finger Lakes: http://www.fingerlakeswinecountry.com/mojomizer wrote:In the first picture are those grapes???????? I did not know New York could grow those.
Most are quite small and most of their production stays in NY state. Quite a few of them make excellent white wines. The summer is a bit short for reds. I haven't had a NY state red that I've liked, but I haven't been back there in quite a while, so they may be better now.

Dave,
Love the view from both the front and back of your house. Those pictures provide a side of New York that I never think about. Much more to my liking than the city.
