I know the last thing I need is another project, but I'm debating building a jigging rod this winter. I have a pair of seeker blue lighting inshore rods and a pair of shimano trevala 58's and am leaning towards the parabolic style of rod. The problem is there are so many blanks out there it is hard to choose! I'm looking for an appropriate blank for 350-500gm jigs. The trevala XXH seems pretty well matched to this range of weights but it seems like a true parabolic rod might be slightly more sensitive.
I've long wanted an acid wrapped rod and the reel will likely be an avet jx raptor.
Any rod builders?

Cool another wrapper on board....... In2deep is a great at wrapping rods. I am a opinioned amateur .
As long as this is not a Muttley question I am cool with it
Soooooooo......... Right now I am loving the Super Seeker Hercules style blanks. It is parabolic but has a West Coast fast action feel to it. Kind of like two gears. I believe they have the off the shelf rod at BJ's try pulling on a rod with a Avet JX Raptor with some line on it. They should let you????
So many great blanks out there........ You just have to know what fits you and the style of fishing you are going to do.
Building a Rod is rewarding in many ways. Is this going to be your first project???

I have really enjoyed the Seeker Hercules GTS 70H you wrapped for me. Fantastic sensitivity and lots of low end grunt when needed. The 100 pounder I caught with it didn't even give it a workout.
Spending my kids inheritance with them, one adventure at a time.

I'll have to check out one of the Seeker Hercules, I've landed some nice fish on my blue lightnings and they make a nice rod. B&J's is walking distance to my office, so that can get expensive On the other hand, if I walk there during lunch I limit how much damage I can do, er ah carry back. When Tom worked at B&J he'd take any rod let you pull on it and bend the blank to a rediculous angle to let you know how the rod would react when pulling up a fish. Trying to get the action just right on a jigging rod with heavier jigs can be tough, but if the Hercules has both the sensitivity and enough back bone not to be overloaded with a heavier jig or fighting a fish that's exactly what I'd like.
I've wrapped a few fly rods, which is funny as I've yet to really fly fish No, don't have a wrapping lathe, but understand the basics.
No, not a mutt thread, though I suppose you could consider him an acid wrapped spinning rod

Paul, you will like the Hercules blank. I have fished it a lot with a 12 and 16 ounce lead head and could use a 24 ouncer without issues. Very light, yet plenty of power. On a side note, I hear the homeroid has been put in "time out" for the next three months.

I do like the Hercules Blanks and off the shelf Rods. They are light sensitive and responsive. I feel they can catch the Majority of species in Alaska..... Those Salmon/Sleeper Sharks and Super Barndoor Halibut would leave me wishing for something more.
I plan on wrapping a GTS 70 XH Hercules blank in Spiral in the future.
There are many other great rod blanks out there and reserching them all is half the fun. Have you checked out this site....... http://www.mudhole.com/ Great at ordering all the rod components.
This place is close and dangerous to me........................ http://www.charkbait.com/ You probably could get the Rod Blank and Avet Raptor in one stop shopping with free shipping and a bunch of swag.(charkbait pliers is excellent product.)
Hope to read about which rod blank you choose. The components and thread colors. Which Raptor do plan on pairing up with??????
A acid wrapped Spinning rod Is sooooooo funny I like the twisted way you think
