In the past when I worked for a municipality, I worked for the sewer utility division. I inspected the new installation of the headworks for the treatment plant and they have similar devices for cleaning the first grate...on a much larger scale...intersting how there is a trickle donw to jet boats!

What the hell is a stomp grate?

Stomp grates are used to hinge 1/2 of your pump intake bars down to clear rocks, sticks and anything else that sucks up into the grate bars. Stomp grates can come in real handy, especially when its a little cold to go swimming when you suck that stick into your grate 50 miles from your trailer. This youtube video gives you some insight.

Having a air actuated stomp grate keeps that pedal out of your swim deck so it is not a trip hazard, is not vibrating back there making a lot of noise and is a one person operation right from the helm.
