scuba doo gets a radar tower
Actually did this project earlier this summer but thought I would post a few boat porn pics . This is the first project that I had done with welding aluminum.
started out bending a lil tube, used 1.25" pipe in 5083 alloy as it bends a lot better without annealing being needed. for the rod holders I used 1.5" pipe. My boss in the background grinding parts for me.
test fitting the first tube to check its fit, used a couple of 2x4's as spacers.
basice shape done and a couple of pole holders added
flat plat will be used to mount radar, all around light and gps puck.

mount for radar and all around light added
couple of net/gaff/pole holders added to lower horizontal.
added a couple of tabs for lights to be mounted and pointed to the back deck. The pole holders have a opening on the bottom sfrom being a little bigger so they drain out.

That looks great!! Thanks for posting the boat porn. We're getting 4-8 inches of rain here and it's very depressing. Those photos put a smile on my face this morning. Keep up the good work. Do you have any shots of it finished and on the boat?
Cheers,
John

mocked up in place and if you look you can see the ratchet straps holding the bottom in place, plus a couple of the fire extinguishers. I am having to install some bracing under these two fire extinguishers as the stock brackets are not strong enough to take the beating of offshore.
more of the mock up from the front.
and from the side

Re: scuba doo gets a radar tower
finished and ready to go fishing, ended up adding another pole holder to the sides for three on each side verticle. I wish I would have added a crab pot davit while I was at it but that can be another project for another day.
If you look in the first pic you can see where the pole holders are not welded on the bottom side so water can drain out.

while I was at this I had to take all the carpet from off the side of the boat in the back, ended up re coating with roll on bead liner. much nicer as the water would just lay in there and was not real fun to dry out. I am not a big fan of carpet in the fishing area of a boat, or paint either. If I would have bought this new there would be no paint at all on it.
