Re: $1M buys this much alloy
I'd have to pay cash for the boat. At 90 GPH I'd have to make payments on the fuel costs.
Re: $1M buys this much alloy
Whats that tell you if we can buy it for half of what it cost the military. I need to come up with something I can get a gov't contract on, and get paid.

I suppose you could employ it as the ultimate SeaTow vessel and charge accordingly, since it lists a 100 displacement ton capacity. Not viable nor economical for much else imo.Illgotoo wrote:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Response ... 96b9#v4-36
He wants $350k for a 45' hull? I posted a 105' alloy hulled fishing Yacht for sale down in Miami for $475k, complete with superstructure-flying bridge. Like anything else, design vs. function/task = value.
I only do what the voices in the Tackle Box tell me to.

Re: $1M buys this much alloy
Got to remember when TRYING to get a Govt. contract the details that go into to any product.
You have to have Spec Sheets on EVERY part of the item and that includes Maintenance,Repairs, Parts, Wiring, Paint...EVERYTHING.
Then you have to be able to supply parts [ ALL OF THEM ] for I believe 10 years to ANYWHERE in the world they use that item.
For a simple boat one may have Half a Million just in paper work and engineering before even buying any aluminum or parts then you get to build a ONE OFF BOAT that they [ The gov. ] may not pick so now your out well over a MILLION dollars.
So lets say you did get a boat contract , now you have to tool up and get ready to rock and roll to meet their dead lines so now we are looking at more employees , more material, more consumables, more Electricity, Shipping cost, complete tech. books for each item delivered, Spare motor/s for each craft [ yes, if it has twins there will be 3 motors shipped ] and the list goes on and on .
So if you do all the math it gets real expensive real quick. These kind of contracts can break a small company in a heart beat if they don't get it.
I'm NOT trying to defend the Government , I just trying to let you know WHY these boats can cost so much. When they sell them to the public they are as is , no spare anything ....Here's your boat, so it's a lot cheaper to buy.
My $0.02

Welder: Before bidding $100 shouldn't we inspect what we are bidding on? The boat is on Vashon Island -- 20 min ferry ride from Seattle. I would think the sellers would be happy to show the merchandise.

Welder, I'll go in with ya. I figure I could find us a low mileage (Around 500K on the odo) Pete with a 550 Cummins and a 18 speed for a reasonable price. That would last us a lifetime or two with the use it would get from us. Then do a few modifications to it and we would be good to go...........
As for DRIVING it......
Have Class A CDL, will travel....... LOL!
Re: $1M buys this much alloy
That it? Anything else? How about a heated warehouse to park the truck, trailer and boat in?

I'd love to have that thing to:
- run everyone off the jetties at the inlet, as if I was the "pol'lice" 'round here.
- pretend to be the friendly and sometimes helpful Coastie, and then take out a few enemies, at close range.
-"Oh, I can't fish here in this so called security zone?" I think I can
-take up too much room at the boat ramp docks, while sitting around playing grab azz.
-Patrol the river during festivals, getting up close views of drunk chicks in thongs.
