Hi Les,
It is a python...........bit hard to ID but probably a scrub python. They run up to around 15 feet or so & will eat small kangaroos, dogs, cats, pigs, chickens & whatever else is around. Bigger than a mans thigh in girth although that would be a big one.
Not my porch but we have them around here. Nocturnal generally & hunt by picking up the body heat of their next meal. Sort of like a Sidewinder missile that slithers. No recorded attacks on human apart from the odd fool trying to grab one & being bitten. They are not venomous & are often kept as pets.
