26' Down East in process
Here is my current project. In the end it will be a 26' downeast style picnic boat. I started designing a lobster boat but ended up with wanting a larger cabin. We are doing all of the fab work here in my shop. We have our own 6' x 12' waterjet, cnc milling machines, many different welding machines, bender/rollers etc. and a crew of 3 fabricators working only on the boat. The only thing i sent out was the cutting of large hull sheets. Yarde cut the 3/16" bottom plates for me on there HD plasma and Pierce cut top side plates from 1/8" coil stock on their 40' cnc router. I am using a combination of 5086 and 5052.

Looks great, are you in Boston? I am on the northshore, about 15 miles north of Boston.

Re: 26' Down East in process
Great pics...it is always great to see how these vessels go together, how they are supported and the details of the build. I have always admired the lobster hull design and it will be great to see it in ALLOY! How is it powered, I see the shaft tube in the keel? When is the launch, I'll bring the picnic basket? Keep the post alive as I know we all enjoy seeing progress and beauty spring to life. THX for posting! The pic size is very good as Les stated. Capt PJ

Do you have a drawing of the final concept. You know what it will look like when she is done and ready to launch.

Yes Jetty,
It has so me of the same properties as stainless steel.
Non-magnetic
corrosion resistance
paint doesn't like to stick to .
big advantage ITS LIGHTER IN WEIGHT.
It also cost less per pound to buy. Some say its harder to weld, i don't think so.
I think they call it Aluminum???
Hope you had a good weekend down there.

Re: 26' Down East in process
Wow that looks great. I have always liked the Down East looking boats and a straight shaft diesel is the way to go.
Do you have any more progress pictures to share?
Thanks for posting this thread. Very cool boat .

Re: 26' Down East in process
Impressive.
I like the lines; but then I like the lines of the Coldwater and Mike's recently completed Boat the Reel Song as well.
What should be the cruise speed and max speed of her? Fuel burn per hour? Last how much does she weigh now with out the engine in her? Amount of Aluminum Bought to cut to use in her build?
Good Job so far!

Re: 26' Down East in process
I've been slacking on posting pictures....here are some of the sea trial December 2011. She sat on of her lines and everything worked perfect! 22 knots fully loaded with 6 passengers. Handled great, very stable.

Re: 26' Down East in process
That really is a beauty and will fit right in the neighborhood without so much as a raised eyebrow!
The optimist in me thinks that there should be huge market for that boat on both coasts.
Well done.
Oh yeah...MORE pix and videos please.

Agree Dave, that is an esthetically pleasing look that the downeast style embodies.

Re: 26' Down East in process
Thanks! The plan is to build them on a custom per request basis. So the price is going to be based on requested options. I know what it cost to build I'm just trying to figure out market range. I would like to get opinions on purchase price range. Any thoughts?
Here are some pictures of the interior. We still have some detail work to complete.
