Boat One, Engine Zero

Post by welder »

This is what can happen when one hits a Dead Head [Submerged Log ] at 35 Knot's . The Pacific Boat suffered NO damage, No broken welds and did not even bend the aluminum.
Got to love a plate boat. :skipper:

Hope this wasn't your boat. Must have caught the motor just the right way to break it off like that. And every day our government buys more non alloy boats.

Not my motor/Boat, I have a Gray motor [ Honda ] That bracket is Black, probably a suki .

I feel bad for the loss of the motor but I don't think anyone was hurt and the boat looks to be fine.

At least we don't have to buy them a new boat.

They have a well to do Casino/Hotel complex along with a bingo hall and the original casino as well. They can afford another one!

Fact is, after seeing lots of damaged boats around here over the years most if not all of them are owned by public agencies or companies and are driven by people that don't give a rip. Private boat owners rarely hit logs and dead heads because they are actually paying attention to whats in front of them . . . our tax dollars at work! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Unfortunately I would be willing to bet almost all of the cash for that boat comes from federal grants and not the casino. The waste I have seen by tribal agencies is unbelievable.

I like it.

Don't care if they were indians or coasties.

Just gives me more Blog material, because I haven't been fishing in awhile.

My favorite pics are still the delaminating high dollar glass sportfishers.

Great Pic W....get that from Pacboat1 ????

I have a pic in my mind of what a 15' bowrider looks like after a 26 Pacific CC runs it over......... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

That picture just , Showed up in my email, I guess were getting Famous [ or , Infamous ] but it is a great testament on how tough Plate boats are . :smitty:

The boat in the above picture is a 2001 model and has been ridden Hard That was engine #3

Maybe now they will learn to slow down in a River filled with Dead heads. :skillet:

I did not post the above picture to bash the agency that screwed up , it was posted to show what these hulls are able to handle.

This happened in the RIVER?? For people that are not from around here, there are no local rivers where it would be safe for anyone to run 35kts with a prop boat. Heck there aren't any rivers around here that I would run at 10kts and not be terrified that I was about to mangle my prop and lower unit.

Not safe but if you did not pay for it you do not care, that is the mentality of the guys running these boats.
I read somewhere that the Hondas on the harbor patrol boats in Boston only know two speeds, idle and WFO.

I'm thinking he hit hard bottom although some of the logs around here are quite large but you'd have to be pretty shitfaced not to see something floating on the surface big enough to shear the motor off like that :scuba:

What makes the Harbor patrol in Boston different than any other cop? Ever see a SAFE BOAT doing anything but idle or 50knts

That is pretty impressive stuff ! As we all agree the Alloy don't give !

I wonder if anyone has thought of using forged engine bracket pieces besides Merc Racing ?

I remember when my Honda broke its bracket.....I thought to myself forged alloy would not have done that !

Would have just sheered the bolts rite off.......

Def worth going fishing in that area ! Takes thing a good while to go bad when its under water.....

But then those electronics are going to run some serious ching !

It would be a impressive find on a dive

Just noticed something :joecool:

Suzuki wants their 225s and above rigged with six bolts .....who rigged this ? (really doesn't matter does it ? )

Interesting that 4 bolts held just fine with forward shear pressure (bolts strongest attribute)

That makes me think ........hmmmmmmmmmm if myself and others have had failures previous to the 6 bolt mandate

then I am willing to bet that that either all or the majority of failures were due to side loads !

This failure was the pivot bracket too.....usually the weakest link , normally fails during trailering with the engine

held up with its service stops. I have seen that very often ......

In the running position the trim strut would have put enormous load to the center of the pivot bracket. Looks like the

the forward half of the pivot bracket shattered. It would have been stressed in a pull down fashion , that would put the

trim strut area as a fulcrum point and heavily loaded the forward pivot ears to failure.

Someone go fish up the engine.....lets see the other half of this failure ......

Ahhhh !

Second photo helps alot ! That trim strut pulled the center section rite where it mounted. You can see where the strut

pin was.....

Wow guess they better think of going forged components on these magga horse engines.

Or just don't hit stuff !
