Been around lurking

Post by goatram »

I have been lurking and learning from you all and from the other boating and fishing
forums as well. I post mainly on Bloody----.com the Washington state chapter.

As you can see in my Signature I have a north river alloy boat made in Oregon.
I have owned it for the past year. I have used it extensively in the Puget Sound, fishing
every thing good to eat that lives in the Sound. Approximately 500 gallons of gas last year
burned and 125 hours on the clock. I do enjoy it.

I finally broke down and bought my Spool gun for my Miller 250. I have been using it a little.

1. So far closed off my open area below my offshore bracket.

2.Made a Radar arch with 18 rod holders. 4 on ea. side and 10 across the back.

3. Made a Gas powered Shrimp Pot Puller for a friend

4. Future project is to fabricate a hard top in place of the canvas one currently on the boat.

It was hard and a pain. After work last night I spent about 2 hours playing here figuring the process out. The process of shrinking the size down leave the quality lacking but that is the results for posting to show some of the porn we all like to see.

No Dave I am a transplant to the PNW. I go up as a AF brat then joined myself and did twenty :sarge: . After that settled here for the job

That’s not pretty, that one has been abused… I know, I know,” it’s that other boat stuff material,” Believe me buddy, if I knew then (when I bought new back in 2006) what I know now my offshore rig would have been, “Alloy” live and learn I guess, oooouch…

I started to wax my boat and found what I hope to be an air pocket... It was a small bubble, till my dumb BACK SIDE poked it.. The dealer has been notified and should be taken care of when she goes in for service here shortly…

No worries about the hijack. I had a plastic boat before my current one. A Galaxy 18' runabout open bow with a Volvo Penta 4 cyl. Tried my darnest to make it a fishing boat with out any Luck. It was a fair weather boat and it scared me a few times. Waves over the bow and being temperamental about starting. I owned for 6 years. Then I saw the light. and it lead me to the North River.

Welder thanks for the package in advance. Do need to hear the story about how you came to Lurk on the Wa. Chapter of bloodydecks.

John it's real simple , there is a BUNCH of Alloy there and I like Alloy.

I was born and raised in So.Cal. , moved to Texas in '94 but I had to go back to So.Cal to Pick up my Pacific23 at Tradewind inflatables and Marine. Kind of funny , I drive 1600 miles to buy a boat in the county I lived in before I moved to Texas.

Sweet
You will see some more. I am a cheap son of a gun. I am always looking for some thing I want that I can make. It has rubbed off on my youngest Son too. The projects are just starting for the Alloy stuff.

Steel project have been on going. The car port that my boat is under was last years summer project. 90 foot of I beam hung with the tabs welded on to attach the 2X8 purlins matching the construction of the steel trusses that my shop was made. Shop was built in 2006 with the forsight to install the beams that the carport attaches to.

Thanks on the heads up on posting the Pics. Shrinking them messes them up a little.

Here is the first project that I did after getting my spoolgun. The transom originally had no hull extension aft under the bouncy bracket. The original owner found a few cracks and North River (NR) took the boat back to the factory in Oregon to repair the cracks and modify to include an extension. The second picture you can see the extension and bracing under the bouncy bracket. This design allowed water to fill the bracket and it drained slow on plane. There was not a lot of flotation provided. NR redesigned the bracket in o6 for the hull to extend all the way back to the aft end of the bracket along with making it a true flotation device. I did add 7 1/2 inches to the hull and enclose both the sides and back with .160" 5056 plate. I did not continue to the aft edge because there is an access slot for the bolts holding the motor on. That grey transparent coating is an epoxy film I painted on. It still need to be painted with some black hull paint.

I also added the Bennett trim tabs. They were a take off from a friends boat that he left at the dealers when he upgraded to Lenco electric tabs. They are the short actuator style. I had to add the square tubing as stand off to mount them to the transom. Now I have less porpoising at cruise and higher.

Ps I have Just found out how to post pics with out using photo bucket. I tried post this last Friday and my computer locked up. No more photo bucket for me.
