Honda trail bikes......who's got em?

#1

Post by Sculpin »

My hunting buddies and me own a few of these collectibles. They are the cat's azz for hunting on and we use them all over the Island to get into places away from the crowd's so to speak. They are great machines and if looked after will serve a hunter well for many years. Most of them are of the late 70's vintage but a couple are early 80's.

Here is a shot of our collection on the front lawn of my buddies house.

Those are cool what model are they and how long where they made?
I have a Honda Rancher I use for tooling around and trail riding in the woods, pretty unstopable with 4wd.

I wish I did.

When I was 12 we had new neighbors move in down the road – we lived out in the boonies. Scott was a year younger and had 2 Honda trail 70 bikes (one was his older brothers who was in college). Man those were a blast. Talk about the ultimate mini bike. I wonder why they still don’t make them? Suppose it’s because of the 4 wheel ATVs of the day?

If I could find a Honda trail 70 in good shape for not a ton of cash………I’d seriously consider one. I won’t tell yours if you don’t tell mine.

You can find out all sorts of info on them here.

I loved these C-70's and the trail 90's also! I had a Z-50 and then a '73 XR-75. I swore that when I grew up I was going to get a CB-750 and ride across the country to California and cruise down the Pacific Coast Highway!

30 years later, I moved to California and rode the PCH on my Harley almost every day.

This sure makes me think back! I had a boat before wheels it was a molded plywood boat 50's vintage called a WHIRLWIND with a fore deck and steering by cable and a 15HP Johnyrude. Then in 1964 I had to have wheels to go to school at El Camino College in CA. It was a1964 Vespa GL150 cream color and a spre in the rack behind the seat. Then in 1967 I got a Yamaha YD250 (I think) a twin cycldr 2 stroke with oil injection and a 5 speed box..then in 1969 I got a Chevy 3100 with a six (216ci) it was a 1949...from the original owner...put the bike in the back and the aluminum 1966 Valco 12' on top and went and had fun before I got drafted, June 13, 1969! WOW! Brings up the old brain waves fursure! Capt PJ

That kicks azz! I have to show that to my buddies.

Most of the bikes are local from the Island and were bought through the buy, sell, and trade. Average price is around 1000-1200 bucks for a good used one. My buddy Dale found one of the CT110's in Sooke last year. It had 240 original km's on it  That thing is an 81' and it looks brand spankin new.

I still have the original Honda 90 engine, but the top-end tired with over 7700 miles on it, most of which came from previous owners.
3 fishing buddies have 90's...... a 72, another 77, and a 78......they take us into trophy trout lakes where the Winnebago's can't go
Lots of good info here on the engine upgrade. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/honda_clone/
Low gear has as much or more torque than the original engine, and the 26mm carb feeds the gas faster...the only drawback was I had to install a manual clutch lever , which make it a trickier ride when in rough terrain.
It a 12v motor, so also had to install a voltage regulator to keep all the 6v lighting and battery.
