Re: Prawning Feb.12, 2012
Thanks for the pics and trip info. On nights when work is slow I like to google earth the names and locations mentioned in post to see the layout. You have a really nice area to play and fish in.

Dawg thirty inch sides will be plenty for me. My flat bottom plate boat has thirty inch sides however it has some flair to it.

Re: build question
Chris is the pic of the boat from Alaska do able? I have looked at hundreds of boat/skiffs and it all comes down to something similar to the pic in between the terriers. I called a couple metal shops today asking about alum and longest lengths available.

Chris I'm flexible on the length 20-24' I only say that due to material limitations, waste or ? So if I had to pick one it would be 20 '. Beam not sure how to answer this only that I like a 72" floor. So can I say whatever the beam will be , will be? Draft restrictions will be none. This boat w...

Re: build question
I commercial fish the Ohio and Wabash Rivers in So Indiana. From Nov 1 to May 30 I gill net fish for paddle fish and shovel nose sturgeon for their roe aka caviar. The other months I use hoop nets for catfish and buffalo. I have a HAACP facility that I process the fish in. In the above pic I am runn...

Re: build question
There is a metal shop in Evansville,Indiana which is about 15 miles from my home that will cut alum patterns that has been worked up on a computer. I am going to call them to see if and what they need to do this. Kinda work backwards. I know a guy who designed a really sweet duck boat and had the sh...

Re: build question
pj I looked at that skiff and love it. However it is still a flat bottom. I have spent many hours/days in a boat similar to the one in craigslist down in La. They are a dime a dozen in Louisiana. Real popular with crawfisherman and gator hunters. I almost built one like that however I would be in th...

Re: build question
Chris something like this. AAD has made alot of comm fish boats. Notice how the v bow sits level with the bottom. When you are running gill nets this keeps the v bow from biting in the current and going one way while you and the net go the other. Is this something you can work up? I would have to fl...

Re: build question
Thanks Chris. I will print and make the cutouts. I will assemble and get back with you. I have looked at your boats and have something in mind. Its hard to explain however I will try... I seen pics somewhere on the net where someone took a sheet of alum say 18' long and 60 inches wide. They cut a el...

Re: build question
One other note. My buddy who runs nets with me suggest against a true v bow due to hanging onto nets in the current. He said he once had a v bow and when running down the nets the boat with catch the current [we fish edys] and cause the boat to pull away from the net and stretch his arms way longer ...

build question
I am going rat house crazy thinking of building a boat. I'm looking to build a V bow, wide open, 20' range and 60" wide. Looking at 3/16 bottom[maybe 1/8] with 1/8 sides. This will be for running set gill nets on rough water days. On average I run 42 miles a day running nets in my flat bottom p...

Re: SWAMP PEOPLE...and thier new Alwelds
I was in La in Sept helping my buddy fill 60 gator tags. I stopped at La Fish Net Co and spoke to Billy. This is the Lafayette store. Billy told me that Liz was going out on her own with another female gator hunter and the big news was Willie got his missing tooth fixed. I'm ready for a new season. ...

Reel without hacking your thread up I would like to get a pattern and take to a Louisiana shop and have them to cut the patterns out so I could return home to Indiana and start welding. Alum and cutters are a dime a dozen in La.

Re: Hey
By the way after installing the F200 on my fishing boat and running hoop nets all summer I decided to go with a Atlas hydraulic jack plate. With the jack plate I am able to raise my motor straight up and then slight tilt to keep my gill nets from tangling in the lower unit. The season will be a true...
