Trim Tabs

Hey Guys
I'm looking for a supplier for the QL or Humphee interceptor type trim tabs, there is bugger all shops over here sell them and the ones that do are at twice the price they are sold for over your way.
Any place you could recommend would be appreciated.

Re: Custom Series Aussie Alloy

Hey Chris Na actually it's neither, it's a CNC marine by Steve Chappel. I got a really really good rate offered by onesteel perth for materials and cutting, ended up cheaper to get it down there and shipped up than it was to get cut in melbourne or localy in Darwin even. Your builder in townsville s...

I have to catch up with the owner and try and get some water shots, I went out for the water test but all the pic's that were taken were mostly from within the boat.

Custom Series Aussie Alloy

Hey Guys

Things are a little quiet at the moment so I have the chance to catch up on some computer stuff. thought you would like to see some pic's of the last boat to roll out the door.
It has all be water tested since these photos, and is being used and abused on a regularly basis.

Re: new tri hull

Hey Bob, do you fully weld all your frames to the bottom sheet? I noticed some are and some arn't. It is just that I have recently come under criticism from a former boat builder for fully welding both sides of the frames and was wondering what your take was.

Re: Might have to build barges.

Hey mate, it may just seem simple thing to knock a barge together. But hings arn't always as they seem. The logistics involved would be a nightmare. Where as if you went through a NA then you have the re assurance that it has been designed by a professional. And more than likely it will actually cut...

Taz I tried one of the arbotec units but found that it went blunt to quickly for my liking so I went back to the meat axe. rastus Yea when I was a mechanic I reckon my 1/2" drive rattle gun only got a squirt of oil once a week and it's still goes to this day, 15 years later. Think I might be lu...

I've been finding that the 'Bigfoot' motors in general will not hit the higher speeds as their brethren motors. The new Yammy 70 suffers from the same problem over here, has the bigger gearbox leg on it and seems to top out at 35mph. Same as the Merc Bigfoot, From what I can make out they have a red...

I think you might be over oiling it. 4 Drops of light machine oil every 2hrs worth of usage, this is pretty mush the same for any air tool.

Re: meat eater

We call them a meat axe as well, I know what your trying to say Chris, it's what I use mine for. I think maybe he uses extrusion for his seam joins. I too have had some very close calls with this deadly weapon, usually I find it's the new blades that are the worst for jumping, after they wear in the...

Re: Mig welder woes

Mate if it has served you in the past and this is a new drama I would not go looking to replace switches and such. It's more likely a consumable problem. Contact tips can cause this, have you got an alloy rated tip? Pull the tip out and check the bore through which the wire runs. If this has an allo...

Re: Hull Floatation

Hey Guys I'm not 100% on what the ruling is over there with hull lengths and mandatory foam instillation but over here anything 6m and under it's compulsory. I personally still install foam in all hulls that I make regardless of size. If you don't mind a little reading then there is a disturbing rea...

Suzuki Rigging guide needed

I guys, as the title suggests I'm chasing a rigging guide for Suzuki outboards with dimensions and such for the transom brackets. I have a Yamaha one and it's brilliant but need the Suzuki as well. In fact if some one has a honda one I'd like to grab that as well please.

Much appreciated.

Kevin I've had my gas supplier quote me on the heliarc gas, it's about four times the price of normal argon so I havn't ordered any yet. I figured when I start consistently welding 1/4" plate I'll get some in. The perished torch line was a doosy, as at first it only leaked when the torch was ma...

Thanks for your input Kevin, your right about the ac/dc balance. I have more neg as I am trying to achieve more penetration rather than a picture perfect weld. But I would like it a bit better than I am currently achieving. I will try your spray can cooking oil as the lower temp burn off sounds like...

Contaminated Welds

Here are some pic's of a transom tig weld. The inside was welded with a pulse mig, welded fine. Once turned over the outside was backchipped with a 4" grinder with metal blade. A bees wax was used as lube, the back chipped area was thourghly washed with acetone and then wire brushed. This conta...

You should be able to buy whats called half pipe, which is exactly what you are making. I get it in 50mm/2" dia. I use this for the rub rail at the top where the side sheets meet the top gunnel.

Any decent alloy supplier should stock this.

Re: Welding a fuel tank?

Can be done, but is time consuming and there are risks if shortcuts are taken. I weld tanks for people but charge accordingly, I usually have them empty the tank then I degrease with a high pressure sprayer, then fill with detergent water and let sit for a couple of hours. Then connect a hose to the...
