Re: Copper Paint on an Aluminium Hull...
Totally agree its a loss but if someone wants the hull because they have the time, yard, and equipment to work on it, I can put you in contact with the insurance company. They are just looking to move the hull.

Copper Paint on an Aluminium Hull...
... is not a good idea and boat yard insurance has paid me out on the hull. So my 2009 Stabicraft 829 (28') was totaled and after offering me a salvage price for the hull which I rejected, the insurance company came back to me asking if I was interested taking the hull off their hands... Hull is in ...

Re: The real world
The two containers of tefgel I purchased and provided to the installer went unused - No clue about galvanic corrosion. Additionally, incorrect installation of the golight as confirmed by the company who makes it.

I purchased some fuel locks from Amazon and they fell apart on me. Contacted the manufacturer and they stated it was an old design replaced more than two years ago.

Re: The real world
Sorry... Had to share - I saved these souvenirs which were removed from my boat following remediation... 1. Both connectors punched through exposing +12V 2. Wires burnt on one side due to liberal use of heat gun. 3. The red wire was not sealed at all. 4. The fuse "nicely" labeled "GO ...

Some of the quality work performed by a Portland electronics marine company. What you are seeing is after their one attempt to remediate and did not return calls following. Paid $$ for a local company to remediate. What I learned is if a company claims NMEA, call NMEA to find out what their level is...

Re: Boats for Following Seas
Personally, never really had any control issues in following seas - Its all been fun. I have been caught out in poor conditions but once the wind and seas were behind, the boat handled it very well. You are more than welcome to come out with me if you are in the area and current conditions would be ...

Re: No Paint, Alumiprep 33 Prep
Not a big fan of Nyalic, it is not petrol-chemical resistant. It is widely used here, but you often see a brown stain below the fuel filler and vent from spilt fuel and fumes. CRC or WD40 will also dissolve it, and believe it or not, so will sunscreen. Did not know that - Thanks for the clarificati...

Pretty much all the "pretty" boats in the marina stay moored. Its interesting to see that most of the boats on the open water have a "used" look.

I know my Stabicraft is going to float whether its right side up or upside down... I have a hand held waterproof marine radio, GPS, and an ACR Aqualink View PLB in my ditch bag.

Stabi taking a hit!
I just heard about this third hand and feedback I received was the owner is ok. What I heard is the vessel was hit by a 42’ fishing boat. Vessel assist towed the boat back to Long Beach where they pulled it out of the water. Looking forward to hearing from the owner... Physically appears only 1-2 ch...

Thats a Frewza or a boat from Frews Marine, NZ. Brendon Frew worked for us for a few years before starting his own backyard business. Tim. Thanks Tim! Garmin Radar Issue - GMR24HD
I was experiencing Radar Service Lost errors after running my radar for 1-2 hours. I cound always restart my Radar after a minute but it was a pain. I have been working with Garmin for quite some time (9 months) and this month Garmin replaced the unit with a new GMR24HD. Appears there is a bug which...

I had purchased the San Diego - Vancouver chart in July 2009 and was provided the 2008 version. I was in contact with Garmin this week due to another issue and asked about the chart/version. This week garmin sent me a replacement 2010 chart for the 2008 chart free of charge.

I also have a large zinc on the rear of the hull plus the zincs on my engine mounts. * Hul...

That's not the problem..... The problem is dissimilar metals. Stainless screws in contact with your alum. plastic washes, rubber washers, the use of Tef Gel. What ever it takes to isolate the 2 metals when mounting equipment. http://www.tefgel.com/contain.php?param=tefgel_infor http://www.sailorsso...
