Re: Acid wash.....hmmmmm

Well, the incredibly nasty storms we've had here has kept me pretty busy, and away from the boat. The rain hit the boat pretty much like a pressure washer and cleaned off the chalky stuff so well that the hull is actually pretty darned smooth! Decided I could live with the staining/lack of shiny on ...

Re: Acid wash.....hmmmmm

What a storm! We've been without power since Saturday evening. I (finally) hooked up a generator yesterday afternoon. Funny how out of touch and lost I felt without access to the internet for a couple of days...starved for news. Anyhow, the boat was never intended to sit in the water for sooooo long...

Re: Acid wash.....hmmmmm

Should I be concerned about the acid compromising the integrity of the hull?
Would another acid wash be inadvisable?

That doesn't look good to me...it seems that they didn't do a complete job! They showed you how it would look and you expect it to be that way. Have you approached the manager or owner of the facility to have it resolved? if you paid by CC then tell the CC company, VISA or whoever to place a disput...

He did not do a really good rinse. Rinse the heck out of it and then Rub one out on her. See how it looks after that. As you said in the first post No One volunteers for the hard work. All on you to make it right. Did the Acid take off the Hard Stuff? Actually, some people do volunteer to do work a...

Acid wash.....hmmmmm

O.K., had the boatyard put my boat up on blocks, and I spent a few hours on my back "lightly" sanding the hull to get rid of the barnacle "glue" and make it smoooooth again (why does nobody ever show up to help for these work projects?!) I was very happy with the results I was ob...

100 if not thousands of $$ to repair? come on those zinc's needed to be replaced years ago. :rotfl: Actually, those zincs were in great shape until I hit them with the pressure washer! It's not visible in the video, but I was pointing to a teeny-tiny little tear in the weld where they attached the ...

Re: Alloy after the Tsunami

I'm feeling pretty good about my choice of an Alloy boat right now! My boat was in the Santa Cruz harbour when the tsunami hit (which went on all day). I was on the end of the dock next to my boat with a 12 foot long (aluminum!) pole, fending off ALL kinds of stuff that was flying by. In the late af...

Long time no sea !

:rotfl: Hope everything has been going well for you guys around here! It's been a lonnggg cold wet winter and I've been working my butt off and herding the kids, so no time for anything! Getting caught up now, so it's time to get the boat ready. (by the way, I'm re-writing this post because it took ...

Re: Aluminum in the harbor?

SJD,
I'm concerned about electrolysis eating my boat. I guess another way to ask the question would be: How do I know if my factory installed zincs are adequate for the job?
I figured if anybody knows the correct answers, it would be you guys!

Aluminum in the harbor?

Hey guys, What's the consensus on letting your alloy boat sit in a slip in the harbor? The harbor here in Santa Cruz is known to be "hot", and there isn't an aluminum boat in it (except mine  ) . I've left it in for a couple of weeks because it's just so darned convenient to hop i...

diadicic1, Remember, the ASKING price is different than the SELLING price. Now more than ever. Don't listen to those who would suggest that you offer only 10% less than the asking price, and don't be in a hurry. It took me two years of research and looking (online EVERY day) but I ended up with the ...

Re: Shoot-thru transducers

Mojomizer, We ended up going about 50 miles out in increasingly sporty seas. No tuna were caught, but we had a great boat ride! Was quite impressed with the ride on the new toy. Very solid feel to it, pretty soft riding considering the confused seas. Averaged roughly 1.9 m.p.g. on the trip. Heading ...

Hi Pete, I agree with you about cutting a hole through a perfectly good boat! Just the thought of it is like fingernails on a chalkboard. I like your solution, and I'll most likely be copying it. Thanks, Dave

I've been looking for a better picture on my fish-finder, and have been reading lots of opinions on shoot-thru versions and aluminum. Then I came upon this conversation from the hull truth that I thought you guys might enjoy. Old 10-27-2004, 09:03 AM #18 E Fitzgerald Member Join Date: Mar 2004 Locat...

Re: Hey, anyone seen an aluminum boat around here?

Yeah, you're right about the guts in the bilge. That box does lift out of there for below deck access, and the drain hole dumps right in front of the drain plug for the boat, so I could give it a good rinsing out at the end of the day. I think I'll eventually figure out how to get around it. There's...

Thanks Mark! I'll eventually catch up to the 21'st century,( kicking and screaming the whole way! ) And yes, those boys are LOVING it. The only thing to get them off the bow was when it was their turn to pilot the boat, then it was right back up to the front. I'm gearing up (literally) for this week...

O.K. guys, it only took two people about three hours but I THINK you can now see some pics of the boat! Maybe next lesson can be on how to put individual pics here in a post.
