Re: Labor Hours
Building a kit is a learning experience. It will save you money on a boat if you consider your learning time an investment. I didnt get paid to go to college, not sure about you... Learn the skills, do the best you can, and enjoy the process. If you do it well, you will be damned proud of that boat ...

This is a riveted boat? This might not be the place for it. The floor(sole) is likely plywood?

Re: Hull ride differences between manufacturers
A boat with higher deadrise forward will tend to split waves, rather than try to ride over them. Splitting them is better for overall ride, riding over them is preferred for river/shallow water boats. A narrower beam will also produce a softer ride, as it has less wave to split. The deadrise aft is ...

Re: list of self-bailing manufacturers?
From my experience, dont be surprised if this forces you to a boat over 6m/20ft in length. The builders that play in this realm do intentionally. Over this realm the self bailing sole really makes sense, and they can eliminate the foam requirement. By including bilge pumps and bilge water indicators...

Re: StarCraft hull quick fix
This forum is more geared towards the commercial thicker fully welded aluminum boats, may not be the best place for repairs on thinner riveted boats. A one sided repair means you intend to use blind rivets? A pop rivet or hollow rivet has a hole in the middle, unlike a solid rivet that fills the hol...

Re: What kind/make of boat is this?
If there is a serial number on the transom, the first three letters would be the manufacturer code. You can search that online. Not sure how far back that goes as far as info and format though. The last two numbers would be the year.

Re: New boat questions - hydraulic steering, carpet, trim tabs
There is a fairly extensive list on this website of builders. You should be able to find a few options in your area, and can likely deal directly with builders instead of dealers. Lifetimer, Silver Streak, Pacific come to mind. You should be able to find many more that build a more commercial qualit...

Re: New boat questions - hydraulic steering, carpet, trim tabs
Both of the boats you mentioned seem to have covered plywood for the sole/floor. Have you looked at any boats that have a fully welded in aluminum sole? You are at the size where you could likely get one that is self bailing as well and not have to worry about bilge pumps/covers, etc as much.

Re: One3 new skiff 17'x6'6''
Nice boat, I've looked at building the same design. Its fairly small for a self bailing sole, do you find the sitting height to tiller height awkward? The sole would have to be relatively high for a small boat. Does it backflood in reverse or back trolling?

Re: Prop size for 19' Baja Bayrunner and BF90?
Assuming this thing currently has a prop. What are you looking for or looking to change? Some prop manufacturers have calculators if you have a bunch of existing info on what changes might do for you. Is it too fast? Too slow? Just cant get it up?

I'd be willing to contribute, but without sounding like a knob, what does it cost? I enjoy the open forum that promotes the better end of aluminum boatbuilding. Not the too light riveted junk.

Re: Resurfacing Aluminum Boat.
I've done a few hulls with the SCT. Running it the short way on the panel(not lengthwise of the boat) then going over by hand with a hand pad and water seemed to level out the surface fairly well. The machine did most of the work and easy to guide by hand in the short span of a hull panel, and the r...

Re: Wiring Advice Please...
There is a good book, nigel calders mechanical and electrical systems for boats. That might be a good place to start educating yourself about boat electrical systems. Also, ABYC publishes standards, learning current requirements that boatbuilders have to meet now is very helpful. E-11 and E-10 are l...
