Re: ACB 2008 30' military model

I bid on one of these a few years ago but the missing collars killed the deal for me. I don't remember the exact details but I think a few of these were used for an Unmanned Surface Vessel program. Anyhow I would contact Life Proof Boats. They are a Safe Boat spin-off and will make collars for any b...

Re: Aluminum/Stainless safe anti seize?

ACB was using a ton of a product called ECK (Electrolysis Corrosion Kontrol). I ended up with a box of it after the auction. You are more than welcome to some of it. I have Jars and Spray cans. http://www.vannay.com/index.php?m=4 http://us.ppgrefinish.com/getmedia/1BA0498B-3C7E-42BF-A227-018F829A9CF...

The boat is a Cutwater 30 sedan. It's a surprisingly light boat. 30'x10' with a single D6 weighs 10,200lbs dry.

Re: raider 2484 question

Make sure to double clamp the hose connections that are below the waterline, add some heat shrink to the wiring connections, remove all of the screws and apply tefgel, then put some sacrificial anodes on it. Those were some of the issues the boat came with. I picked up a 2684 for a steal at the boat...

I HATE Butyl tape. This sounds like a job for 4200. It's a slightly less serious version of 5200.

Re: Maine Craigslist

For a boat that cost more than my house, the finish on the Hunt blows my mind every time I see it. The white $7 through hulls drive me nuts too. Come to think of it the dome lights are also pet peeve of mine.

Re: Sliding VS Hinged Doors

I like the looks of a swinging door better, especially the all glass styles. The added visibility and light you get with a glass door is amazing except if you are trying to sleep. However if your hatches or fish holds cannot be accessed without closing the door then I would consider a slider. I have...

Re: One, two, or emergency bilge pump?

Definitely get at least two pumps with auto switches and make sure one of them is not a simple float switch. I have a Water Witch in my boat that has worked well so far. You will sleep much more soundly when you don't have to worry about your one lonely pump getting clogged with a piece spectra or s...

Re: LED lights

Rigid all the way. I have one of their Dually D2 models on my tower and love it. They didn't have the SR-Q2 series at the time, but I probably would have went with that style if it was available last year. I would recommend the "diffused" lens for use on a smaller boat. I just installed a ...

Re: 95 Armstrong; To expensive?

I don't know anything about older Armstrongs, but I would much rather have a 15 year old commercial grade boat, than a brand new Hewes, Raider, North River, or any of the river boat builders for the same price.

Re: acb boat for sale

You could probably have the collar made out of aluminum for the same price. I saw Norvelle retro-fit a 21' zodiac with an aluminum tube setup that looked amazing for around 10k. I was trying to come up with a way to get around the collar situation but I'd probably end up with the worlds wettest/ugli...

Re: acb boat for sale

Anyone here bidding on this boat? I just about bid until I realized the boat is designed to use an inflatable or foam collar. I was on the phone all morning with collar makers and it looks like 13-15k to have an inflatable collar made and almost double if you want to go with foam or an air foam comb...

Re: New boat paint

If it was mine, I would paint the cabin and leave the hull raw aluminum, then do a vinyl boot stripe from the sheerline down 1-2 feet to add some color. I would avoid painting or wrapping anywhere you would expect dock rash or fender wear.

Re: Cool WCVI fishing vid with a nice alloy boat

I leave the fancy reels at home when I head to Canada and clamp my cheap mooching reels to my 10'6" rods. I don't have to worry about them getting stolen on the way up and I don't look like a "Rich American A-Hole" They last forever, hold a ton of line, are extremely simple, and offer...

The cheapest solution would be to apply this or a similar insulation to the outside of the box. http://www.insulation4less.com/images/prodex_cross_l.jpg Cut to size, spray both surfaces with 3M “Super 77” adhesive, and stick it on. If that doesn't help, there are a couple of custom kill bag manufact...

Re: Electronics Inventory

I would consider upgrading at least a couple of your flares to the SOLAS models. The cheapo units that satisfy the coast guard regs are OK for the lake, but I wouldn't count on them to get much attention offshore. Now that you can get a nice PLB for just over $200 bucks, I wouldn't leave home withou...
