Re: New here and shopping for a boat
It is good to look at aluminum thickness but panel size plays a big factor in things. Panel size is the length (longitudinals) and width (frames) of aluminum that is open (unsupported) in a hull. My $0.02 is that a .155" hull with a 10" x 40" panel size is better than a .188 hull wit...

Re: Plastic Bunk Boards??
We use 3/8" plastic (1/4" radius on the top edge) with SS screws pilot drilled and countersunk into two layers of 2x 6 that are bolted together. The tail end and any joints in the plastic are bolted through the wood. Be aware: The boat will slide around like it is on ice....rollers go fron...

Some very nice chunks of Stainless.
These are 1 kw Furuno Transducers with "Chirp" technology
Each needs a 3 3/4" mounting hole in the hull. One is 50mhz and the other 200mhz

Here is the Nesting File (done by hand) for the 1/4" and 5/16" hull components ready to be cut on our router table. We use both imperial and metric and prefer metric. This boat is metric 9.912 meters so 32'6". The 6" deep frames are actually 150mm http://i325.photobucket.com/albu...

Re: 26' Ironwood Cabin
John I have a 27 to transom and 29 to end of motor platform x 9.5 now, and thinking of going down to a 24 or 26 x 8.5 or 8.75. I love the boat I have, but thinking of a little smaller, and a little less tall. Present boat needs 14 foot shop door when it is on the trailer. Ruggit .......I posted pic...

Re: 25' IRONWOOD
Hello Ruggit I posted pictures of KAOS in a new topic of a 26' Cabin Boat. We usually use 5/16" 5086 or 5083 on the bottom on any boat longer than 24'. KAOS was done with 1/4" 5083 to save a little weight as it was being used in an area that it will rarely see waves larger than 3'. Take Ca...

Hey Goatram
My typing teacher in high school didn't see eye to eye with me so at 15 I was skipping after noon typing class and hanging around the boat yards....more than 30 years ago.
The boats can speak for themselves...the good and the bad.

Hi PJ
Rubber and aluminum should not go together and I'm never big on gluing strips or spaying thick coating on alum either.....seen too many things go on alum that cause electrolysis and then had to experience getting them off.

Hi Square tube is used but if the boat has a swept shear line square tube needs to be formed in 2 direction. The causes it to twist as such the top of the tube does not like to stay flat side to side. Not impossible but I'd say it is 3 time harder putting square tube on a straight sheer line than a ...

Re: Corrosion on floor
Hey MIQ My quick thoughts. If you where able to lift the sheet up even 1" and take some pictures that would be great. 1.) The sheet may not be 5052. 2.) Is the console/deck in any way used as part of the boat electrical system. Disconnect the negative off the battery. With the 12volt power run ...
