Re: Bottom Paint on Aluminum Boat

What sort of prep would you recommend for a bare aluminum boat that has been in and out of the water for 6 year? Do you recommend painting the outdrive? I think Volvo says not to do that, but the outdrive does get some growth on it, although this may not effect performance since it is all out of the...

Re: Bottom Paint on Aluminum Boat

Bob, Thanks for the advice. I looked at this product, and I see that it comes in colors. Have you done anything except black on a bare aluminum boat? I was thinking something like their 4 white / 1 black may look stealthy, like the natural gray of the aluminum, but Black would probably be the defaul...

Bottom Paint on Aluminum Boat

I did a search, and didn't really get an answer to my question, so here it is. Should I bottom paint my boat, and if so, with what? What are the impacts from bottom paint in regards to performance? My boat is a 2009, and currently is bare aluminum everywhere, including the bottom. I am contemplating ...

Re: Is this fixable and what should it cost

Yea, I think your best stance is 'Sorry, it is in the hands of the insurance company, nothing I can do' and let them deal with him. As for the cost, it can be really hard to match paint and blend in on something like that. To make it like new where there is no complaining wife at the repair company ...

Old thread, but I can confirm that Seawolf is still in business and building boats. He delivered one to Cordova very similar to mine this summer.

I like my hinged door, but I have lots of room for it. It seems like most people like whatever they have if it is designed and installed correctly.

I agree. Kevin must really have a hard time when people quote their transom deadrise as they reason their boat is the best in rough seas. It is almost like we should be paying him for a class here or something.

Re: acid washing your Alloy...

I don't even have bottom paint and I am in a slip most of the summer. Maybe it is unique to our cold waters, but I just pull the boat a couple of times a year and spray bleach on it. You don't even have to power wash it, just drop it back in the water and all growth is gone.

Russ,

What is the power going to be on this boat? Good job at selling into Homer. This is Bayweld Boats home turf!

Re: acid washing your Alloy...

I think a bare aluminum boat will look and sell better after 10 years of real use than a painted boat. With painted boats you always have to worry about crevice corrosion anywhere you get a scratch or crack in the paint.

I'm in the same 'boat' as Cody, with a Volvo Diesel. I can get right at 3 mpg at 26kts. Of course those are apples and oranges numbers. I have to use statute miles to squeak over the 3.0 mpg marker.

Hey Doug, I hope to run across you in Seward or Whittier, or out on the water somewhere this summer. I am adding a bunch of garage space, but not tall enough like yours so the boat can stay inside. It should be pretty polished each year by springtime!

Re: RIP Marty. You WILL be missed...

Pete, You have the same problem I do. Spare motors, spare anchors, but no spare captain! I have been trying to get the wife into it as well, with limited success. At least my oldest daughter is picking up some things. I went ashore this summer to pick blueberries for a few hours and left her on the ...

It's my dad's boat which is now mine. The bottom paint that is on there is Trilux. The boat is to wide to be trailered so it will be in the water all season. I know my dad and i repainted the bottom before every season to avoid lots of growth and barnacles slowing us down. Thanks for the help guys ...

Re: Bottom Paint Help

I thought of a couple more questions after I posted. It would be helpful to know what type of bottom paint is on it. Some are designed to be painted over, and other need to be sanded. I think most of them don't need to be sanded bare before adding new paint. Are you sure it needs to be redone? If yo...

Re: Bottom Paint Help

Cody, I can't give you any advice on the bottom paint, hopefully someone else here will chime in. I left mine without paint and it is doing well. How much time will you be spending in the water (slip) vs. on a trailer? Also, are you talking about your Dad's boat, or something else? Where will you be...

I have never heard of storing with the tank empty, but that does not mean it won't work. I always store full so I don't have a condensation issue. I run diesel, so I think I have less old fuel issues than with gasoline.

Re: Bottom Cleaning

I was in the water most of this summer as well. I think I started in Whittier on May 15th. I moved to Seward in mid June where I was in a slip as well for about a month and a half, and then back to Whittier where I just pulled a week or so ago. I saw more growth in Seward. I am not sure if that was ...

Re: Bottom Cleaning

Sharkbait, Did you get this buildup while using the boat much? I did not scrub mine at all, I just sprayed the bleach twice in the summer and than ran the boat. I figure moving a boat that size at 30kts is way more force than I can put on it with a brush. The only place it was anything less than shi...

I never got video of the sea trial. I was down there by myself for that, and was busy learning about the boat and all the systems. Waterdog, I have a 2009 Seawolf 31' with a D6 Volvo Penta IO. It is a flush deck and self bailing. Seawolf will build them with either an IO or with outboards, the choice is yours. It is a great boat, and everything is very well engineered to last and it is easy to work on. I love the boat, and am h...
