Where are you in Central Florida?
I'm in Edgewater a hop and a skip South of Daytona beach, for reference.
If you don't mind I'd like to check your project out.

Re: Conchfish AL 17.6T build
I haven't seen this system before. Easy access strainer. Still have to have concern with plugging the pick up, but that's a given with any raw water system. , looks easy enough make.

Not sure the vent hole needs to be that big?
Also running a hose to a ball valve up on the console from the vent can help.
In shallow water take off when you don't want the aerated water keep the valve closed.
When running open the valve and let the aeration break the hydro suction.

This seems a silly question.
Are those independent bolt on torsional stub axles or a complete axel from port to starboard?

Weld out sequence is part of the design plans? I think I would start in the middle of hull and weld seams, backstep welding out. Each individual 4" to 6" weld, welding towards the center Skipping around welding all longitudinal seams simultaneously from center out. Hope kmorin chimes in. ...

Re: Labor Hours
The theory that everything is going to fit (pop into place and go as planned) is almost never how it works out.
Maybe approach the task with a value cost and not a time cost.
Agree on a value of job complete and let the shop work out their hours.
Just an idea.

Re: 28k - Is this boat a good buy? Needs refurbishment
So your buddy that welds doesn't surprise you. He may or may not be surprised himself. Old corroded aluminum does not weld the same as nice clean aluminum. If it is not cleaned properly (ground out, sanded, solvent and cleaners will not get this cleaning job done) every little nook and cranny of cor...
