Re: Epoxy Paint in fish boxes
I have a fair amount of corrosion in my under deck fish boxes I too have a North River Seahawk Offshore 24' and I too have had corrosion problems with my two side underfloor fish boxes. http://www.aluminumalloyboats.com/viewtopic.php?t=6124 But not the big main fish box in the centre. Firstly, I ...

Re: My new North River Seahawk Offshore 24'
It's back in the water now, and, yes - the boat is in wet moorage (water) all year round. All anodes have been changed, aluminum. I believe anti-foul has been touched up previously with Trilux II because we cannot get Pettit Vivid up here. I will see how the year goes and try to get the boat down to...

Re: My new North River Seahawk Offshore 24'
Six years ago, this coming September, CHAPS completed an excellent bottom paint job on my boat as detailed in this thread. Since then, my boat has been in marine moorage every day and only out of the water for engine service. While I had intended to return to Agate Pass Marine in 2020 for bottom pai...

Re: My new North River Seahawk Offshore 24'
?1.why are hull anodoes mounted on studs suspended? I also see an anodoe flat against hull is that also a anodoe? ?2.why you have dual hull anodoes? ?3.why is lift eye so low? ?4.what are all your anodoes made of. I recentely found out my 2004 johnson 175HP has 3 anodoes one inside gearcase/powertr...

Re: My new North River Seahawk Offshore 24'
3 plus years ago and how is is now? It will be five years this summer and almost 1000 engine hours from when I took delivery. I am very pleased with the boat. The bare aluminum - no-paint- finish is oxidising nicely. I had a bit of rampant corrosion in one deck fish box the cause for which I was no...

Re: Advice for Corrosion
Having an electrical re-fit and some electronics upgrade has enabled me to have look at the bilge in area normally inaccessible under the battery floor. Well ‘look’ by photographs the electrician took and sent to me, one of which is a bit blurred. From what I could see - although I did ask him to ch...

Re: Best "value" suspension seat bases...
These are worth investigating:- https://www.suburbanseats.com/c/closeout-truck-seats I have had National air-ride seats in my permanently marine-moored pilothouse boat for four years now. They are extremely comfortable and even in the roughest conditions I simply forget about the ride. You are right...

Re: Advice for Corrosion
I thought I would post some pictures of how I have treated the fish-box. Acid (Muriatic acid diluted 50%) washing was a first and an education! Despite the low temperatures and rain I managed to get the epoxy to harden pretty quickly by jamming a fan heater under the lid with a tarpoulin over (air s...

Re: Advice for Corrosion / Maybe a glimmer .....
I have been racking my brains and I think I may have figured out what may be the cause of my corrosion. There is nothing leaching into the fish-box and nothing has been placed in the fish-box at any time that should be an issue. But through the fog of memory a light has been beginning to glow. My bo...

Re: Advice for Corrosion
Kevin - thank you for your comments which are very much appreciated. I did say I have doubts but I am not confident enough with all matters boat let alone corrosion to argue the toss with boat builders some distance from me. To try and get some help to separate the BS from the useful is why I detail...

Re: Advice for Corrosion
Thank you Kevin and JJ25. You highlight some doubts that I share. I referred the matter to North River who said to me that it looked to be purely saltwater corrosion. Let me run through a timeline of what has occurred. My boat went back to North River end of June and was away far longer than anticip...

Re: Advice for Corrosion
It is my belief that my issue relates to insufficient housework on my part. In other words that the fish-box became contaminated with saltwater that was not flushed out sufficiently and allowed to dry and/or the little water that gets left in the drainage pipe become acidic. That is the corrosion is...

Re: Advice for Corrosion
JJ25 I did not intend my reply to your post to be 'snotty' in any way. I had a trailer with purchase but I do not have a truck and the boat on trailer were too heavy for my SUV. Also I have nowhere to store a trailer. So after a year I sold it. Boat has been back to NR three times now. First courtes...

The Almar Sounder was the forerunner to the North River Seahawk Offshore (North River bought Almar) and both have a good reputation.

Re: Advice for Corrosion
Thank you for your suggestion. But no - I do not have a trailer and nowhere to store the boat. The whole point of having the boat is to have it in the water in the marina and ready to go fishing. I am interested in fishing not boating.

Re: Advice for Corrosion
Thanks Kevin. I am not sure if I understand everything properly but I am a reading and re-reading everything I can. It has been suggested to me elsewhere that it might be a difference in alloy grades with a lessor grade used for the fish-boxes or some of them. While the fish-box on the starboard sid...

Re: Advice for Corrosion
Well I have left the fish-box to soak for a few days in vinegar. It definately is pitting with pits all over. I guess that after rinsing the next step should be to sand but I would be grateful for any and all suggestions. It is strange the fish-box on the starboard side is fine and the aluminium smo...

Re: Advice for Corrosion
Thanks Bob - I was hoping either you or Kevin or both would comment. Referring to the fish-box I don't think its oxidisation. If I touch or rub the 'pinnacles' they all dust up white powder. The fish-box on the other side and the big centre fish-box do not look like this and are just smooth tarnishi...
